As the 1802 came from the factory with only a bow and stern cleat on the port and starboard side, I wanted to install a third cleat on each side to allow for a spring line when at the dock. I wasn't able to install the new cleat exactly amidships, as I was not able to gain access in order to install backing plates, washers, and nuts. However, I did manage to gain access from inside the cabin, just aft of the cabin window (although it was still a bit of a tight squeeze).
Even though there is 1/2" plywood laminated to the underside of this area, I still want to install an aluminum backing plate with washers and locking nuts. The picture gives the impression that there is a lot of space, but there is just enough to get one hand into this area.
