The set-up for dual batteries was an easy upgrade. I still cannot understand why Trophy does not offer it as an option on this boat. Essentially, all it involved was the purchase of a dual battery switch(the required Guest brand dual battery switch is basically the same price as the Guest single battery switch installed at the factory), a second battery, battery box, and some marine battery cable and terminals. The original battery and the single battery switch installed from the factory was located in the aft port storage compartment. The second battery was easily located in the starboard aft storage compartment with the cable run below the motor well.
As this is the exact same set-up used on the Trophy 2102 (prior year Trophy model 2002), I don't know why this was not offerred from Trophy on this boat.
The Guest model 2110 dual battery switch was a direct replacement for the factory Guest single battery switch. The changeover was quite simple as I was able to use the exact same mounting holes and the existing wires were basically located in the same place.
A couple things that I would like to note:
I was a bit disappointed with the battery that was installed at the factory. Trophy had installed a Mercury 850 MCA battery, even though Mercury themselves indicate that all the Optimax motors (I have the 115 HP Optimax) requires a 1000 MCA battery (not deep cycle). Therefore, the new battery I purchased was a 1000 MCA that I intend to used for the main battery for the motor. The factory battery I will use as the house battery for when I am at anchor.
Second. The battery was installed from the factory with only a battery strap with no protective boot over the positive terminal or connection. As per the factory sticker located in the battery compartment, this was not in compliance with the ABYC requirements for battery installation. I quickly rectified this situation as I purchased marine grade battery boxes for both batteries.
